How to Cancel Your Monster Account

Last week Monster.com put out a press release advising Monster account holders to change their passwords because:
"We [Monster] recently learned our database was illegally accessed and certain contact and account data were taken, including Monster user IDs and passwords, email addresses, names, phone numbers, and some basic demographic data."

Because my Monster account is not active (I'm not looking for a job), I decided to cancel my account all together. Not so easy! I searched all over the site for instructions to close my account but couldn't find any. I'm sure they were there, but hidden so well that if it hadn't been a security concern to me, I would have given up.

I emailed Monster's customer support, who responded with the following instructions. I post it here in case you want to close your Monster account and can't figure out how to do it.
How to Close Your Monster Account
1. Go to www.monster.com
2. Log into your account
3. Click Preferences on the top right side of the screen
4. Click to expand the section ‘Resume Privacy’ (Unless it is already expanded)
5. Click on ‘Cancel Membership’
6. You will see options learn more about membership cancellation and/or cancel your membership. (Please Note: Canceling your membership can not be undone.)

Hey, thanks for this guide to canceling my Monster account. I couldn't figure it out either, so I Googled "Monster.com cancellation" and found you.

My account was one of those hacked out by the European hackers that nailed so many Monster accounts. Apparently my information was sold to African con artists operating either out of Canada or through Canada as the telephone number traced back there when they TWO YEARS LATER tried to contact my grandfather (they must have run a records search) pretending to be and trying to scam him. Fortunately my 90+ year old grandfather can barely hear and ended up hanging up the phone and leaving the house. They tried to call back numerous times but we told them we were on to them and they are leaving us alone... for now. Thank you Monster!

Thank you for this post! A lot of sites like Monster make cancellation near impossible.

Thank you sooooo much for posting this. I have been bombarded with all kinds of nasty things because of my Monster account. In the future if I open accounts of this type, I will be much more judicious about the information I share.

Thanks for the information, beautiful. Would have missed the area where it said, "Cancel Account/Membership" completely if it weren't for your step by step guide regarding the deletion process.
